Shining Lights Week 9, Term 4, 7/12/2023
Congratulations!
Congratulations to all our students for their personal growth during the year, and thanks to our families and staff who supported them.
At our Year 6 Graduation this week, several students were formally recognised for academic excellence, sporting achievements and positive contributions to our College community. It’s often difficult for staff to choose recipients as we have so many talented and generous students.
Our major awards are determined by multiple nominations by teachers who recognise Leading Learners who model the way, inspire a shared vision, enable others to act, challenge the process and encourage the heart. The Light of Christ awards are best summed up by lyrics in our school song, “Lumen Christi Shine”:
Shine your light, Lumen Christi shine
In the life of this place, with you as our guide,
We grow in love, may we grow in unity.
To be helping each other, to carry the load,
To be happy to serve and care is our code,
We carry your name, we lift your holy flame
And keep it bright.
The Primary Awards Ceremony will be Wednesday, 13 December (12:10pm - 1:00pm) and Secondary Awards Ceremony will be Thursday, 14 December (5:00pm - 7:00pm). It would be fantastic to celebrate your child’s growth with you, if you are able to attend.
As we head towards the end of another year, may we reflect with gratitude on 2023, recognising that who we are today has been shaped by both positive and challenging experiences and encounters. May we look forward with hope to 2024, knowing that come what may, all will be well.
Farewell Year 6, 2023 - Hello Year 7, 2024
Last night the year six students, their families and teachers celebrated the Year Six Graduation with a Graduation Mass and dinner at LCCC. The night began with Father George sharing a joyous Mass, singing to the year six students his own graduation song and reflecting on all the things that we have to be thankful for. Following the Mass there was a beautiful celebration of the students time in Primary school with memories and achievements shared in a wonderful presentation complied by Danielle Lynn as they looked back on their journey from kindergarten to year six.
Our major awards were presented to students, with Amelia Reynolds receiving the Academic Award. Joshua S receiving the Kieran Reynolds Mathematics Award. Zak T receiving the principals award and Nico M and Joshua S jointly receiving the Sports Award. The celebration concluded with John Liston leading the students in the school song.
Following the mass and awards the year six students and their families enjoyed a range of delicious food from Sapphire Coast Eats. The Top Courtyard had been transformed with lighting and decorations which looked spectacular and the students enjoyed their time together dressing up for the photo booth, playing handball and pass the parcel. The evening concluded with each student receiving a personalised cupcake with their name created by our talented teacher Amy Chester.
These nights cannot happen without a huge amount of work from the staff and it is fitting that some time is taken to say thank you to everyone who helped make the year six graduation such a joyous event. Damian Kennedy, Antionette Woods, John Liston and Father George for the mass giving the evening a beautiful spiritual touch. Alicia Kelly, Danielle Larter and year 5 for your creativity and decorations that transformed the top courtyard into a magical space that everyone appreciated. Also, for organising the year 5 and year 4 house captain servers. The year four and five servers looked amazing in their caps and aprons and did an excellent job of serving the food to the guests. Thank you to the primary staff who attended the evening and helped to set up and pack up. Thank you to Shane Giles, Antoinette Woods, Megan Herganhan and Barb Gough for celebrating this occasion with us. Thanks also to our office staff, in particular Kate Liddell for your administration help.
A huge thank you to Ethna Farrell. Your careful planning ensured the night was a joyous celebration for the year six students and their families. Most of all thank you for your care and love shown to your year six students throughout the whole year. You can rest assured your guidance has had a lasting impact on these students and they leave primary school with lessons learned, friendships forged and challenges overcome, which is a solid foundation for the adventures that lie ahead.
Last of all, thank you to our year six parents and families. Families are the first educators of their children and they continue to influence their child’s learning and development during the school years and long afterwards. Your support of the school and your children has ensured that they are ready for what lies ahead.
As we bid farewell to our year six students we do so with a sense of pride. We look forward to seeing them thrive in their future endeavours knowing that they carry with them the values and lessons instilled during their time at LCCC Primary School.
