I began my secondary education at Lumen Christi in 2002. I have many fond memories as a student at Lumen Christi, including remembering when all of the school, which in 2002 was only two year levels, got extremely wet during a Clean Up Australia Day excursion and everyone had to go home!

In 2008 I was honoured to receive the role of College Vice Captain. It was at this stage that I could not decide what university degree or career was best suited for my passions of children, music, sport and leadership. For many years I had dreamed of being a lawyer, so I took subjects to build on this interest and studied hard to enable my trial HSC exam results to facilitate an early application for a Bachelor of Arts.

In mid 2008, I received an offer of placement for the University of Wollongong and after much deliberation I decided to transfer to the Bega campus so I could stay close to my family. It was whilst studying my Bachelor of Arts and working for a local solicitor, that I realised a law degree was not going to fulfill my hopes for the future. After speaking to a Careers Adviser at my university, I decided to enrol in a Graduate Diploma of Education (Primary) at the completion of my Bachelor of Arts degree.

I never looked back, well don’t get me wrong there were challenging times, but I would not change the path I took! In November 2012 I graduated with a Graduate Diploma of Education. In December I was invited to an interview at Lumen Christi which was chaired by my former school Principal and Principal of the time Paul Carroll. To say I was nervous is an understatement. I left the interview fearing the call that would follow, however a few days later to my surprise Paul called to ask me to fulfil a twelve-month contract beginning in January 2013.

During my first two years of teaching, I decided to undertake a Master of Theology specialising in Religious Education, whilst teaching with and learning from the inspiring staff at Lumen Christi. I taught at Lumen Christi from 2013 until 2016, teaching Kindergarten and Year 3. These years enriched my career and supported my next move.

In 2017, I was offered a 12 month teaching position at St Patrick’s Catholic Primary School, Bega as the Religious Education Coordinator and Kindergarten teacher. Once I became part of the nurturing community, I didn’t want to leave.

In 2018 my husband and I received a blessing; we were told we were pregnant with twin girls. In 2019 our girls arrived, and I took six months leave to be with them.

I returned to part time work in Term 4, 2019 as Religious Education Coordinator and began to learn how to balance work and life. In 2020, I accepted the additional role as St Patrick’s Classroom Support Teacher. This role has by far been the most challenging and rewarding role at it encompasses many of my passions.

I am now trying to decide whether to complete a Master of Educational Leadership or a Master of Special Education. I may just wait until the twins are a little older!
