College Updates Term 4 Week 1 - 17 Oct 24

Dear Lumen Families,

Welcome to Term Four. I hope that families were able to take advantage of the spring weather and longer days, recharging for the final term of the year.

HSC Exams

Our Year 12 students embarked on their HSC exams this week. It is an exciting time for them (and for the teachers) as the students bring their learning into a culminating event. I was able to meet with students as they entered the exams, led by the head of Faculty, English, Jacinta Battista. It has become somewhat of a tradition that Jacinta leads the students in Prayer as they embark on the English Paper1, the first exam of the season. Jacinta does a lovely job of reassuring the students, helping them to settle and focus, and offering them the blessings of the College, helping them to shine their light. We wish all of our students the very best of success at this time, and I remind them that their  teachers are available to help them through the exam period as they continue to revise and prepare.

College Musical

The College musical is in full swing with opening matinees this week, and evening performances Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Our Creative and Performing arts faculty develop top flight shows, and this one, We Will Rock You! Builds on the success of past musicals. I have been to many of the rehearsal sessions and have seen the show develop over the time. The cast is fabulous with some exhilarating performances coming together. I also had an opportunity to sit in with the band this week. What an experience it was. They are a tight knit group of performers who sound great together! The Crew for the show is a similarly tight group building the atmosphere through their professional dedication to quality sound and lighting. This is a show to not miss!

Prayers Please

On a sad note, many families may be aware that there was a traffic accident last Sunday. Tragically, a College family was affected in the death of the mother of two of our students.  There are two students at St Pats Bega from the same family. The College is supporting the family through our Pastoral Care Teachers, Heads of House and Counsellors. St Patricks  are offering similar supports to the family, as is our System office in Canberra.  Please keep our family in your prayers.

Eternal Rest Prayer

Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

Exciting news.... We are also trialing new snack boxes, three options available these can be purchased over the counter from 8:30am or via Qkr online available for pick up recess. Please keep that mind if you have run out of time for breakfast in the morning.

Freshly baked cookies will be available twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays for $3 each - over the counters sales only - see the board for flavours.

Snack Box Options are:

Box 1 - Noodle Box - Choice of Chicken or Beef noodles, a piece of fresh fruit, museli bar and variety pack of chips.

Box 2 - Nippys Flavoured milk box - Choice of Strawberry or Chocolate, a piece of fresh fruit, museli bar and variety pack of chips.

Box 3 - Fruit Drink Box - Fruit juice popper, a piece of fresh fruit, museli bar and variety pack of chips.

The Public Dental Service operates from both the Bega Hospital full time and the Pambula Community Health Centre for eligible children with Medicare Card.
