Social Justice

It’s always heart-warming to see the overflowing classroom of students who turn up every Tuesday lunchtime for our LCCC Social Justice Advocates group.  Both primary and secondary students share their passion for supporting Wellbeing, Empowering Communities and caring for the Environment in the three sub-committees.

This year we are aligning our SJA group with Caritas’ Catholic Earthcare as part of our Laudato Si Action Plan.  All three initiatives share the goals of responding to “the cry of the poor” and “the cry of the earth”.  As we work toward Level 2 certification as a Catholic Earthcare school, the students are sure to inspire their peers and the wider community to consider even more ways we can “be kind and compassionate to one another” (our 2023 Scriptural Theme).

We celebrate all we have accomplished with respect to caring for our common home

This term, students have a range of opportunities to promote justice, in our community and abroad:

  • Project Compassion Launch – LCCC SJA representatives joined other schools across Australia for the official online launch of Project Compassion
  • World Day of Prayer - student representatives will join the ecumenical liturgy at St Joseph’s Church, Merimbula this Friday.
  • Clean Up Australia Day - students in Year 10 RE Mission will be tidying up our College and local environment on Thursday
  • Year 8 Marketplace - students in Year 8 are creating products to sell on Tuesday 21 March, to raise money for Project Compassion
  • Harmony Day will be celebrated with a national poster competition encouraging students to consider how we can live in harmony  https://movingforwardtogether.org.au/poster-competition/
