Student Reception

Last year we introduced Student Reception for students who repeatedly were not following fair and reasonable instructions.  This involves them being collected from the classroom and having a discussion about how their behaviour impacts on their learning and the learning of others.  In order to return to the learning environment, students need to acknowledge and accept the impact of their behaviour, apologise to the teacher and ask permission to return to the classroom.

This week, we have activated automatically generated emails to parents each time their child is referred to Student Reception.   If you wish to discuss your child's referral, please contact the referring teacher listed on the email or the Head of Faculty.

Parents can currently see details of Sentral Positives, however, due to privacy reasons, cannot see details of Sentral Negatives.  Again, if you wish to discuss these Sentral entries, please contact the College.

We appreciate your support in ensuring that our classrooms are places of learning and that we build relationships of respect.

Year 12 Reports

Year 12 Reports will be sent home through Sentral on Wednesday 24th September.  Please download these as we will be moving away from Sentral to Compass next year.  We wish all our Year 12s all the best for their final month at Lumen Christi.  The HSC exams will be held in our Demountable classrooms and teachers are available to assist with their preparation up until their exam during what would have been their normal timetabled lesson.

Muna Rotary Public Speaking

1000001944.jpg 1000001943.jpg

Andre and Grace represented the school last weekend in Canberra  at MUNA, or Model United Nations Assembly, which is a Rotary-sponsored public speaking and debating competition for senior high school students where they represent different countries at a simulated United Nations, debating topical global issues to develop international understanding, tolerance, and public speaking skills.

Andre and Grace worked hard to research the nation they represented ( Singapore) and practiced skills like diplomacy, critical thinking, and debating while adhering to UN protocols and demonstrating confidence and maturity. It was a great weekend with amazing Guest speakers and the chance to network with other senior students and work on public speaking and debating skills. A huge thank you to the Bega Rotary club and Colleen Rietschel for all her hard work.

NSW Department of Education Screen Use and Addiction Research Fund

Dear Parent & Carers

We are writing to invite Lumen Christi Catholic College to take part in Best Practice in Screen Use for Education - Empowering Students, Teachers and School Communities for Digital Learning—a research project led by Macquarie University, in collaboration with 10 other NSW universities, and supported and funded by the NSW Department of Education Screen Use and Addiction Research Fund. The project aims to develop evidence-based guidelines and classroom resources that help students, teachers and families build healthy and effective technology habits for digital learning.

What we are asking you to do
------------------------------------------------
Subject: Help shape wiser screen habits – parent/carer & student survey
Our school has been invited to participate in a study on best practice screen use. Parents/carers can complete a 10-15 min anonymous questionnaire and/or, if they wish, give permission for their child to do a student survey: Take the Parent/carer and student survey. You can opt to receive a summary of the statewide results. Your insights will directly inform new classroom resources and policy. Thank you for your support.
------------------------------------------------
Why your participation matters

  • Findings will inform a toolkit and professional learning resources that promote balanced screen use for students, parents/carers and teachers across NSW schools
  • Aggregate results and a summary report will be shared with all participating schools. Individual school, principal, teacher, student or parent/carer results will not be reported.

Practical details

  • If you would like to review any of the parent/carer, student, teacher or school leader survey questions, please visit [survey previews].
  • Survey window: Please complete the survey within the next 2 weeks.
  • Data security & ethics: Approved by the Macquarie University Human Research Ethics Committee (Project ID: 18877) and the Catholic Education Diocese of Canberra & Goulburn All responses are deidentified, and participation is entirely voluntary.

If you have questions, please contact Dr Karen Woo (Senior Project & Research Manager) on karen.woo@mq.edu.au.

Thank you for considering this invitation.

Warm regards
Professor Matt Bower
Chief Investigator
Macquarie School of Education, Macquarie University
